“Girl Scouts is awesome! Even if you aren’t into STEM and that kind of thing you can still get together with other people who share your loves and passions,” says 7th grader Laura Soper. Laura went to Crown Center on Saturday, March 4 to work with her Girl Scout group and the Hollis and Miller architect firm. Together, they constructed structures out of cookie boxes to support all girls and women. It encourages girls and women to get into many STEM jobs that are currently dominated by men. Basically, the event told girls and women to be fearless when speaking their mind because of their gender. The event took place from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm and Laura thought the experience was great since it allowed her to share her ideas with others that, like her, had a passion for STEM. “It impacted me by making me see that gender and age don’t really affect your abilities and what you can do,” she says.

Laura Soper thinks YOU should also join Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts! Here’s a message from her: “Even if you have to work with someone who doesn’t like the same things, you get to know each other better and find out things about yourself.” So, don’t be afraid to try something new because you may end up meeting new people and having a great time. Keep up the great work to everyone in Girl Scouts and we appreciate your generosity-as well as the amazing cookies!
